Practicum Requirements

Students in this class are required to complete a practicum consisting of  1 hour of observing/assisting in P.E. Activities/Lessons in an Elementary School Gym. There are a variety of options on how to complete this. The most popular option for students in this class is the Friday recess activities in the Edison Gym. These activities will be led by your PEDL instructor. It will offer UO students the opportunity to specifically see the activities that you’ve learned about in this class in action with students in grades  1st – 5th at Edison Elementary. Other options are available.

#1. Recess Practicum
Come to Edison at the end of the school week (usually Friday) from 11:30 – 12:30 and assist with Recess activities – 20 Points.
#2. Edison P.E. Class Practicum: Visit two 30 minute P.E. classes – 20 Points. Rachel Farkas is Edison’s P.E. teacher. This is a great opportunity to see a recent  Oregon P.E. Teacher of the year in action! Rachel teaches P.E. at Edison during regular school hours on Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday, she teaches in the AM only.

Rachel’s teaching hours are:

• Monday 8:20 – 10:20, 10:45-11:15 and 12:15-2:30
• Tuesday 8:30 – 9:30, 10:15-11:15, and 12:15 – 2:30
• Wednesday: 8:20 – 10:20 and 10:45 – 11:15

#3. Another School P.E. Class Practicum: Visit two 30 minute P.E. classes – 20 Points at another school site.

#4 A Different Option: If none of those three options work for you, the instructor will work with you to set up an comparable option.

Each practicum visit requires a written essay on Blackboard.

• If you missed a class, your make up assignment is to complete a one hour practicum. These practicums are worth ten points since that is how many points you get for attending class. These assignments can be completed by coming to a Friday Recess Practicum.

Missed  One Hour Practicum Makeup = 10 Points – Requires a written essay on Blackboard

Extra Credit Option: Complete an additional  practicum and written essay for 20 points.
